Chemical Class

Modern Biomedical Function

Sennosides (A, B, C, D)

Anthraquinone Glycosides

• Stimulant Laxative: Triggers rhythmic contractions (peristalsis) in the colon walls, ensuring reliable and efficient bowel evacuation. • Colonic Transit Regulation: Softens stool consistency by stimulating fluid secretion into the large intestine.

Flavonoids & Polysaccharides

Polyphenols

• Antioxidant & Anti-inflammatory: Neutralizes free radicals and mitigates oxidative stress in the gastrointestinal tract.

Mucilage

Complex Carbohydrates

• Protective Coating: Balances the harshness of anthraquinones by soothing the intestinal lining.
