📖 Hadith Reference
The presence and role of these noble angels over us is confirmed in several authentic traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):
- Angels Shift in Turns (Day and Night)
Narrator: Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:"Angels take turns among you by night and by day, and they gather at the Fajr and Asr prayers. Then those who spent the night among you ascend, and their Lord asks them—though He knows best about them: 'How did you leave My servants?' They reply: 'We left them while they were praying, and we came to them while they were praying.'"

- Angels Protecting and Writing Good Deeds
Narrator: Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith: The Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned the noble character of these recording angels:"Allah has ordered (the appointed angels) that the good and the bad deeds be written, and He then showed how to write them. If somebody intends to do a good deed and he does not do it, then Allah writes it as a full good deed in His account..."

Classical scholars of Quranic exegesis explain these verses in depth:
- The Identity of the "Keepers" (Haafizeen)
Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that Allah has assigned guardian angels over every human soul. These angels serve a dual purpose:
They protect the servant from harm by Allah's command (Hifz).
They record (Kiraman Katibin) every single action, word, and deed performed by the individual, whether good or bad.
Tafsir At-Tabari: Imam Al-Tabari notes that Kiraaman (Noble/Honorable) refers to the high rank and purity of these angels in the sight of Allah. They do not enter places of immorality, nor do they record anything with bias or error.
- Dual Protection and Awareness
Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Imam Al-Qurtubi highlights that these angels are with human beings constantly—by day and by night—recording deeds and safeguarding them until their decreed time (Ajl) arrives.
