Surah An-Nas (114)—along with Surah Al-Falaq—is collectively known as Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (The Two Surahs of Protection). It holds a central place in spiritual healing (Ruqyah) and daily protection.

The primary benefits and virtues of Surah An-Nas in Ruqyah include:

  1. Cure for Hidden and Spiritual Ailments

Surah An-Nas provides direct spiritual protection against invisible causes of harm, including:

The Evil Eye (Ayn) & Jealousy (Hasad): Neutralizes harmful spiritual energy targeted at a person's health, wealth, or well-being.

Black Magic (Sihr): Reverses and unties spiritual afflictions. Classical sources report that Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas were revealed together to break the spell cast upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

  1. Treatment for Internal & Psychological Distress (Waswas)

Unlike Surah Al-Falaq (which protects against external physical harms), Surah An-Nas specifically targets internal spiritual and psychological battles:

Soothes Anxiety and Fear: Reciting it calms a racing heart, alleviates panic, and instills inner tranquility (Sakinah).

Eliminates Intrusive Thoughts (Waswas): Shields the mind and heart from negative whispers, obsessive thoughts, and doubts induced by Shaytan or negative human influences.

  1. Ultimate Shield Against Evil Jinn & Human Harms

By invoking Allah using three distinct attributes—Rabbin-Nas (Lord of mankind), Malikin-Nas (King of mankind), and Ilahin-Nas (God of mankind)—the reciter places a complete barrier against evil forces from both Jinn and human beings.

Sunnah Practices for Performing Ruqyah with Surah An-Nas

A. Recitation Before Sleeping

Hadith: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to bed, he would recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas into his cupped hands, blow (Nafth) gently into them, and then wipe his hands over his head, face, and as much of his body as he could reach. He repeated this three times. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5017)

B. Direct Treatment for Sickness

Hadith: Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) became ill, he would recite Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) over himself and blow over his body. When his illness became severe, Aisha (RA) would recite them over him and wipe his body with his own hands to seek their blessing. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5016)

C. Daily Morning and Evening Fortress

Hadith: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas three times in the morning and three times in the evening, saying: "Reciting them will suffice you against everything (protect you from all harm)." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3575, Graded Sahih)
