English Translation (Saheeh International)

  1. “Say, ‘Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful. Whatever [name] you call – to Him belong the best names.’ And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too] quietly but seek between that an way.”
  2. “And say, ‘Praise to Allah, who has not taken a son and has had no partner in [His] dominion and has no protector out of weakness,’ and glorify Him with [great] glorification.”

In Ruqyah Shari’ah (Quranic healing), Surah Al-Isra (17:110–111) is utilized as a powerful Passage of Tawheed, Magnification, and Protection (Ayat al-Tawheed wal-Izz):

1. Cleansing the Heart from Shirk, Doubts, and Whispers (Waswas)

  • Spiritual Principle: Demonic whispers and obsessive doubts (Waswas) often target a person’s faith in Allah’s uniqueness and absolute power. Affirming His Beautiful Names and declaring His absolute self-sufficiency (“Has no protector out of weakness”) instantly dismantles demonic illusions.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited continuously during Ruqyah sessions to clear mental fog, obsessive doubts, spiritual insecurity, and anxiety caused by dark spiritual influences.

2. Restoring Absolute Reliance and Spiritual Dignity (Izz)

  • Spiritual Principle: Afflicted individuals, victims of black magic, or those facing chronic oppression often feel helpless and degraded. Recognizing that Allah has no weakness and requires no helper (Waliyyun minaz-zull) instills deep inner strength, dignity, and resilience.
  • Ruqyah Application: Used in spiritual healing to lift feelings of humiliation, powerlessness, or defeat, replacing them with unshakeable dignity through the remembrance of Allah’s grandeur.

3. Fortifying the Soul Through Divine Praise and Magnification (Takbeer)

  • Spiritual Principle: Concluding supplications and Ruqyah sessions with the praise and magnification (Takbeer) prescribed in verse 111 seals the spiritual barrier, ensuring that the heart remains anchored in divine protection.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited as part of daily protective recitations (Wird) over oneself, family, and home to ward off negative energies and evil intentions.

📜 Tafsir / Commentary ▼

Classical mufassireen explain the theological brilliance and protective power of these concluding verses of Surah Al-Isra:

1. The Supreme Names of Allah and Moderate Devotion

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that the polytheists once heard the Prophet (ﷺ) invoking "Ya Allah, Ya Rahman", and mockingly claimed he was calling upon two different deities. Allah revealed verse 110 to clarify that both names—and all His Beautiful Names (Al-Asma' al-Husna)—refer to the One and Only True God. Ibn Kathir also notes that the instruction on moderation in prayer ("Neither recite too loudly nor too quietly") establishes the ideal balance for focus, sincerity, and spiritual presence.

Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Imam Al-Qurtubi emphasizes the profound declaration of pure Tawheed in verse 111: "And has no protector out of weakness" (Waliyyun minaz-zull). He explains that unlike human kings or false deities who require helpers, allies, or partners because of their inherent frailty and need, Allah is entirely self-sufficient, majestic, and absolute in His power. Glorifying Him (Takbeer) shatters all forms of false dependence and shirk.
