Classical Quranic commentators explain this verse within the surrounding context of Allah's creation and divine power (Verses 1–5):
1. Provision and Life After Barrenness
Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that Allah reminds humanity of His ability to bring forth green plants, vegetation, and pasturage from dry, dead soil for animals and humans to feed upon. He then turns it into dark, withered stubble (Ghuthā’an aḥwā in verse 5), demonstrating the cycle of life, death, and resurrection.
Tafsir At-Tabari: Imam Al-Tabari notes that bringing forth pasture (Al-Mar'a) illustrates Allah's infinite power to rejuvenate what was lifeless and nourish all living creatures through His divine care.
