English Translation (Saheeh International)

  1. “And when they have [nearly] fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable terms or part with them according to acceptable terms. And bring to witness two just men from among you and establish the testimony for [the acceptance of] Allah. That is instructed to whoever should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out”
  2. “And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [measured] extent.”

While originally revealed regarding family laws and divorce, verses 2 and 3 of Surah At-Talaq are heavily relied upon in Ruqyah Shari’ah and spiritual supplication (Dua) for profound psychological and spiritual benefits:

1. Relief from Chronic Distress, Financial Hardship, and Blockages

  • Spiritual Principle: The promise of a Makhraj (way out) directly targets blockages in a person’s life—whether caused by human oppression, severe financial strain, or spiritual afflictions like blocked provisions and stagnant affairs.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited during Dua or as a daily Wird (regular recitation) by individuals facing overwhelming hardships, debts, or tight life circumstances to unlock Allah’s divine relief.

2. Healing Anxiety, Depression, and Hopelessness

  • Spiritual Principle: Total reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) shifts the heart’s burden away from human weakness to the Infinite Provider (Al-Hasib).
  • Ruqyah Application: Used in psychological healing to soothe panic attacks, existential fear, and chronic worry, reinforcing the firm belief that Allah is entirely sufficient for whoever trusts Him.

3. Protection Against Despair Caused by Magic or Envy

  • Spiritual Principle: Difficulties inflicted by hidden harms (Sihr or Hasad) often leave a person feeling trapped with no way out. This verse directly counters that despair by declaring that Allah has already set a definitive time limit (Qadar) for every trial.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited during healing sessions to remind the afflicted person that every hardship is temporary and governed by Allah’s absolute decree.

Classical mufassireen highlight these verses as some of the most comforting and reassuring passages in the entire Quran:

1. The Promise of a Way Out (Makhraj) and Unexpected Provision (Rizq)

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that whoever possesses Taqwa (consciousness and fear of Allah) by adhering to His commands and avoiding what He prohibits, "He will make for him a way out"—meaning Allah will release them from every distress, hardship, and worldly difficulty. Furthermore, He will provide for them from directions they never imagined or anticipated.

Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Commenting on the phrase "Wa man yatawakkal 'alal-lahi fahuwa hasbuh" (And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him), scholars note that placing absolute trust (Tawakkul) in Allah is the key to solving seemingly impossible life crises, financial debts, and emotional distress.
