In Ruqyah Shari’ah (Quranic healing), Surah Al-Hashr (59:21–24) is revered as a premier Passage of Divine Majesty, Protection, and Heart Softening (Ayat al-Asma wal-Hifz):

1. Softening Hardened, Traumatized, or Spiritually Deadened Hearts

  • Spiritual Principle: Spiritual blockages, black magic (Sihr), or chronic trauma often cause the heart to feel numb, hardened, or disconnected. The vivid imagery of the mountain splitting from the Quran’s weight acts as a spiritual catalyst to break inner callousness.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited repeatedly over patients suffering from spiritual deadness, extreme emotional apathy, or stubborn resistance during Ruqyah, allowing the light of the Quran to pierce and soften the heart.

2. Expelling Stubborn Jinn Using the Supreme Names of Allah

  • Spiritual Principle: The accumulation of Allah’s majestic attributes (Al-Malik, Al-Quddus, As-Salam, Al-Mu’min, Al-Muhaymin, Al-Aziz, Al-Jabbar, Al-Mutakabbir) establishes absolute divine authority over rebellious spirits.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited with power and firm conviction (Yaqeen) during intensive Ruqyah sessions to overwhelm intrusive Jinn, forcing them to flee under the crushing weight of Allah’s sovereignty and perfection.

3. Establishing an Impenetrable Morning and Evening Shield (Hifz)

  • Spiritual Principle: Utilizing the prophetic prescription of reciting verses 22–24 to invoke seventy thousand angels of protection.
  • Ruqyah Application: Incorporated into daily morning and evening Adhkar, or recited over Ruqyah water and oil, to guard against sorcery, the Evil Eye (Ayn), and demonic attacks throughout the day and night.

1. Protection and Intercession Through the Closing of Surah Al-Hashr

Narrator: Ma'qil ibn Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him)

Hadith: The Prophet (ﷺ) stated:

"Whoever says three times in the morning: 'I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Shaytan,' and recites the last three verses of Surah Al-Hashr [verses 22–24], Allah will assign seventy thousand angels to send blessings upon him until the evening..." (And the same for the evening).

Classical mufassireen explain the overwhelming spiritual weight of these verses, which conclude Surah Al-Hashr with a cascade of Allah's Divine Names (Al-Asma al-Husna):

1. The Immense Power and Weight of the Quranic Word

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that verse 21 highlights the supreme majesty of the Quran. If massive, rigid mountains—symbolizing ultimate hardness and strength—were given comprehension to understand the words of Allah, they would crumble, bow down, and split apart in awe and fear of Allah (Khashyatin-laah). Yet, human hearts often remain hardened due to negligence.

Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Imam Al-Qurtubi notes that verses 22–24 contain some of the most magnificent descriptions of Allah's attributes, culminating in His Most Beautiful Names (Al-Asma al-Husna). He emphasizes that meditating upon these names shatters spiritual darkness, heals hard hearts, and establishes absolute cognitive awe of the Creator.
