“And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good – then He is over all things competent.”

In Ruqyah Shari’ah (Quranic healing), Surah Al-An’am (6:17) is a foundational pillar used to break despair and direct the heart to the sole source of healing:

1. Eradicating Despair During Chronic Illnesses or Severe Magic (Sihr)

  • Spiritual Principle: Victims of prolonged illnesses or dark spiritual attacks often feel hopeless, believing their condition is permanent. The declaration “There is no remover of it except Him” shatters this illusion, reminding the soul that recovery is entirely in Allah’s hands.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited repeatedly during Ruqyah sessions while placing the hand over the area of pain or affliction, affirming with absolute certainty that no Jinn, sorcerer, or medical obstacle can prevent Allah’s healing decree.

2. Eliminating Reliance on False Remedies and Superstition

  • Spiritual Principle: Cutting off dependence on amulets, unauthorized spiritual healers, or un-Islamic practices by centering the heart exclusively on Allah.
  • Ruqyah Application: Used as an educational and spiritual anchor during treatment to purify the patient’s Yaqeen (certainty) and Tawakkul (trust).

3. Restoring Hope and Peace of Mind (Sakinah)

  • Spiritual Principle: Calming existential dread by recognizing that whatever hardship touches the body is temporary and subject entirely to the Creator’s will.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited over Ruqyah water, olive oil, or as part of a daily healing Wird to dissolve health anxiety, panic, and mental distress.

1. The Prophetic Supplication for Removing Illness and Hardship

Narrator: Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)

Hadith: When anyone among the family fell ill or suffered distress, the Prophet (ﷺ) would wipe over them with his right hand and supplicate:

«اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ، اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا»

"O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the adversity and grant cure, for You are the Healer. There is no cure except Your cure, a cure that leaves no illness behind."

Classical mufassireen explain the core message of Tawheed and absolute reliance in this verse:

1. The Exclusive Power to Remove Harm (Laa Kaashifa Lahu Illaa Huw)

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that this verse serves as a definitive statement that Allah alone holds absolute control over harm and benefit. If a person is struck by any form of adversity (Durr)—whether it is physical illness, poverty, hardship, black magic (Sihr), or the Evil Eye (Ayn)—no one in the heavens or earth can lift it, cure it, or remove it except Allah. Similarly, if He decrees good, mercy, or healing, His power is absolute over all things ('Alaa kulli shay'in Qadeer).

Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Imam Al-Qurtubi emphasizes that the phrase "Yamssas-ka" (touches you) implies that even minor hardships or afflictions come by His decree to test human dependence. It instructs the believer to bypass all false hopes in created beings, doctors, or remedies, and to direct supplications solely to the Ultimate Healer (Al-Kaashif).
