In Ruqyah Shari’ah (Quranic healing), Surah Ar-Rahman (55:33–36) is recognized universally as one of the most effective Combative, Binding, and Burning Passages (Ayat al-Harq wa al-Inzar):
1. Breaking the Arrogance and Resistance of Rebellious Jinn
- Spiritual Principle: Rebellious or oppressive Jinn (Shayatin) inside or around a victim often act with hubris, believing they cannot be controlled or evicted. Verse 33 directly addresses “Yaa ma’sharal-jinni…” reminding them of their total powerlessness and entrapment under Allah’s supreme domain.
- Ruqyah Application: Recited directly over a person suffering from possession (Mass) or persistent demonic harassment. The practitioner recites this verse to break the rebellious spirit’s ego and demonstrate that escape from Allah’s judgment is impossible.
2. Burning and Neutralizing Aggressive Spiritual Intruders (Shuwazum min Naar)
- Spiritual Principle: Verse 35 specifically threatens the unleashing of pure fire (Shuwaz) and molten smoke/metal (Nuhaas), rendering evil entities helpless (“Falaa tantasiraan”).
- Ruqyah Application: Recited repeatedly with high intention (Niyyah) during severe Ruqyah sessions to cause intense spiritual burning and torment to aggressive Jinn who refuse to leave or repent, breaking their hold over the patient’s body and mind.
3. Binding and Sealing Against External Demonic Attacks
- Spiritual Principle: The passage establishes a spiritual boundary where no unauthorized entity can pass without Allah’s authority (Sultan).
- Ruqyah Application: Recited over Ruqyah water and sprayed around the corners of a home, or recited over olive oil used to massage the body, establishing a protective barrier against intrusive dark spirits and sorcery (Sihr).

1. The Recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman to the Jinn
Narrator: Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out to his companions and recited Surah Ar-Rahman from beginning to end, but they remained silent. He said:
"I recited it to the Jinn on the Night of the Jinn, and they gave a better response than you. Every time I came to the verse: 'So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?' they said: 'There is nothing of Your favors, our Lord, that we deny, so to You belongs all praise.'"

Classical mufassireen explain the absolute powerlessness of created beings against divine decree and the punishment of rebellious entities in these verses:
1. The Impossibility of Escaping Divine Jurisdiction
Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that on the Day of Judgment (and ultimately in all creation), neither Jinn nor humans can escape Allah's realm or court of justice. Wherever they run within the realms of the heavens and the earth, they are surrounded by Allah's angels and power. The word "Sultan" means absolute authority, power, or divine permit, which no created being possesses independently.
Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Imam Al-Qurtubi elaborates on verse 35 ("Yursalu 'alaykumaa shuwaazum min naariw wa nuhaas"). "Shuwaz" refers to a smokeless, intense flame of pure fire, while "Nuhaas" refers to molten brass/copper or thick suffocating smoke. These elements are unleashed upon those among Jinn and mankind who rebel against Allah's authority, leaving them completely unable to defend themselves ("Falaa tantasiraan").
