Surah Al-Inshiqaq (84:1–4)
Prophetic & Medical Connection (Ruqyah in Traditional Context)
In classical Islamic traditions and compilations of Tibb an-Nabawi (as cited by scholars such as Ibn al-Qayyim and Al-Qurtubi), Surah Al-Inshiqaq (84:1–4) holds a specific spiritual association:
Easing Difficult Childbirth (Taysir al-Wiladah): Classical scholars and early predecessors (Salaf) frequently recommended writing these verses or reciting them over water (or water mixed with saffron) to be consumed or sprinkled on the belly of a woman experiencing labor difficulties.
The Spiritual Analogy: Just as Verse 4 describes the earth opening up, casting out what is within its belly, and becoming completely empty (“And has cast out that which was within it and become empty”), scholars drew a spiritual parallel (Tafa’ul) asking Allah to ease the mother’s womb in gently delivering the child.

- Exegetical (Tafsir) & Contextual Insights
The Splitting of the Heavens (Verses 1–2):
Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi explain that on the Day of Resurrection, the sky will split apart due to the majesty and descending orders of Allah and the angels.
The word وَأَذِنَتْ (Wa-adhinat) means it listens and completely surrenders to Allah’s command, while وَحُقَّتْ (Wa-huqqat) signifies that it is fully obligated, rightful, and bound to obey its Creator.
The Stretching of the Earth (Verse 3):
مُدَّتْ (Muddat) indicates that the earth will be flattened out and expanded like a rolled-out leather sheet, removing all mountains, hills, valleys, and structures so that no one can hide behind anything.
Casting Out Its Contents (Verse 4):
The earth will violently expel everything inside it—including the deceased from their graves (Al-Mawta) and all hidden treasures (Al-Kunuz)—leaving its interior completely empty (Takhallat).
