قَالَمُوسَىٰأَتَقُولُونَلِلْحَقِّلَمَّاجَاءَكُمْۖأَسِحْرٌهَـٰذَاوَلَايُفْلِحُالسَّاحِرُونَ ﴿٧٧﴾

English Transliteration

Qaala Moosaaa ataqooloona lilhaqqi lammaa jaaa’akum; asihrun haazaa wa laa yuflihus-saahiroon.

English Translation (Saheeh International)

“Moses said, ‘Do you say [thus] about the truth when it has come to you? Is this magic? But magicians will not succeed.'”

Bengali Translation (বাংলা অনুবাদ)

(৭৭) «মূসা বলল, ‘তোমরা কি সত্যকে এ রকম (যাদু) বলছ, যখন তা তোমাদের কাছে এল? এ কি যাদু? অথচ যাদুকররা সফল হয় না’»

In Ruqyah Shari’ah (Quranic healing), Surah Yunus (10:77) is recognized as an indispensable Verse of Refutation, Nullification, and Exposing Falsehood (Ayat Ibtaal As-Sihr wal-I’lan):

1. Breaking the Hold of Black Magic (Sihr) and Spells

  • Spiritual Principle: The explicit decree “وَلَايُفْلِحُالسَّاحِرُونَ” (Wa laa yuflihus-saahiroon — “And magicians will not succeed”) operates as a spiritual rule that invalidates any spell, knot, or magical contract made by sorcerers.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited repeatedly during Ruqyah sessions—especially when treating victims of stubborn, long-standing magic. The practitioner repeats “Wa laa yuflihus-saahiroon” with strong conviction (Yaqeen), instilling terror in the afflicting Jinn tied to the magic and breaking their willingness to serve the sorcerer.

2. Exposing Illusions, False Accusations, and Mental Manipulation

  • Spiritual Principle: Magic frequently induces brain fog, severe paranoia, doubt, and distorted perceptions, making the victim believe they are permanently doomed or possessed.
  • Ruqyah Application: Recited over the patient or over Ruqyah water used for drinking and bathing to clear cognitive confusion, restore mental clarity, and remind the heart that truth always prevails over evil tricks.

3. Fortifying the Patient’s Heart with Firm Conviction (Yaqeen)

  • Spiritual Principle: Spiritual healing requires the patient to stop fearing sorcerers and instead fear only Allah.
  • Ruqyah Application: Used as a daily healing Wird (protective recitation) to build unshakeable confidence in Allah’s power, reassuring the victim that regardless of how intricate or dark a magician’s plot is, it is guaranteed by Allah to fail.

Authentic Hadith & Classical Ruqyah Context

1. The Legislative Power of Musa's Statements Against Magic

Classical Context: Scholars of Quranic healing (Ruqyah Shari'ah) group Surah Yunus 10:77 alongside Surah Yunus 10:81–82, Surah Ta-Ha 20:69, and Surah Al-A'raf 7:117–122 as the foundational passages for dismantling and destroying sorcery (Ayat Ibtaal al-Sihr). Musa’s firm declaration that sorcerers can never succeed serves as a spiritual weapon that strips practitioners of black magic of their power and influence.

📜 Tafsir / Commentary ▼

Classical mufassireen explain the confrontation between Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) and Pharaoh's court in this verse, focusing on the distinction between divine miracles and dark magic:

1. Rejecting the Slander Against Divine Truth (A-sihrun Hazaa)

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that when Musa brought clear divine signs and miracles, Pharaoh and his chiefs arrogantly dismissed them, claiming it was merely clever black magic. Musa challenged their false accusation: "Is this magic?" A true divine sign brings guidance, truth, and spiritual light, whereas magic is built on falsehood, deception, and demonic partnerships.

Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Imam Al-Qurtubi emphasizes the definitive closing principle: "Wa laa yuflihus-saahiroon" (But magicians will not succeed). He notes that sorcery can never bring ultimate success, honor, or lasting victory in this life or the Next. Whatever temporary illusion a magician creates is destined to crumble because it opposes Allah's ultimate truth.
