English Translation (Saheeh International)
“And he said, ‘O my sons, do not enter from one gate but enter from different gates; and I cannot avail you against [the decree of] Allah at all. The decision is only for Allah; upon Him I have relied, and upon Him let all those who rely rely.'”
In Ruqyah Shari’ah (Quranic healing), Surah Yusuf (12:67) is recognized as an indispensable Verse for Shielding Against the Evil Eye and Establishing Unshakeable Reliance (Ayat al-Hifz wal-Tawakkul):
1. Protecting Families, Siblings, and Groups from the Evil Eye (Al-‘Ayn)
- Spiritual Principle: Families, children, business partners, or groups who display striking beauty, success, harmony, or wealth are particularly vulnerable to collective envy (Hasad).
- Ruqyah Application: Recited as a protective shield (Wiqayah) over children, gatherings, family members, or business ventures before public appearances to ward off malicious gazes and envious stares.
2. Curing Health Anxiety, Paranoia, and Obsessive Precautions
- Spiritual Principle: Patients suffering from severe health anxiety, spiritual fear, or obsessive-compulsive dread often over-rely on physical measures while remaining trapped in panic. The phrase “Inil-hukmu illaa lillaah; ‘alayhi tawakkaltu” anchors the mind back to Allah’s sovereign decree.
- Ruqyah Application: Recited over patients suffering from chronic panic attacks, fear of harm, or spiritual vulnerability to restore inner composure (Sakinah) and firm faith in Allah’s guardianship.
3. Neutralizing Social Envy and Disruption
- Spiritual Principle: Preventing envy that aims to disrupt family unity, sibling harmony, or collective prosperity.
- Ruqyah Application: Recited over Ruqyah water and sprayed around living environments or homes to clear negative energy generated by jealous eyes and envious neighbors.

📜 Tafsir / Commentary
Classical mufassireen explain the dual wisdom embedded in Prophet Ya'qub’s (Jacob, peace be upon him) advice to his eleven sons as they traveled to Egypt:
1. Taking Precautionary Measures Against the Evil Eye (Al-'Ayn)
Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Imam Ibn Kathir explains that Prophet Ya'qub feared that his eleven sons—who were exceptionally handsome, sturdy, and well-mannered—would attract the Evil Eye (Al-'Ayn) if they entered the city together as a single large group through one gate. People might gaze at them with envy (Hasad) or admiration, bringing harm upon them. Therefore, he advised them to separate and enter through different gates as a physical precaution (Asbab).
Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: Imam Al-Qurtubi highlights the profound balance between taking physical precautions and maintaining absolute trust in Allah (Tawakkul). Ya'qub immediately clarified: "And I cannot avail you against [the decree of] Allah at all; the decision is only for Allah." Taking practical measures to avoid the Evil Eye does not contradict reliance on divine decree (Qadar), because precautions are effective only if Allah permits them.
